Energi IQ was appointed to complete a Prediction of Operational Energy Consumption (POEC) modelling analysis for a proposed new Accommodation Block for the RAF in London. This analysis was completed as part of a BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 assessment and uses the methodology set out in GN32 and CIBSE TM54.
Detailed energy modelling was carried out using the Dynamic Simulation Modelling software DesignBuilder to predict the operational energy consumption of the building once in use. The energy modelling includes detailed information such as occupancy hours, occupancy densities, operating hours for systems, thermostat set points, lighting operation etc. Additional modelling scenarios are undertaken to see the effects weather and poor/ good management will have on the predicted energy consumption.
As part of this project we also carried out the Thermal Comfort Assessment (aka Overheating Assessment) to analyse the overheating risk for the building. This assessment was carried out in accordance with the London Plan requirements to undertake the dynamic overheating modelling in line with the guidance and data sets in CIBSE Guide A.
